Examples.
 
1. 4 月 (がつ) に 桜 (さくら) の 花 (はな) が 咲 (さ) きます。
Cherry blossoms bloom in April.
2. 冬 (ふゆ) に 雪 (ゆき) が たくさん 降 (ふ) ります。
It snows a lot in winter.
3. わたし の 部屋 (へや) に 電話 (でんわ) が あります。
There is a telephone in my room.
4. グラウンド で 生徒 (せいと) が サッカー の 練習 (れんしゅう) を しています。
Students are practicing soccer on the play ground.
5. あした ヤンさん が 日本語 (にほんご) で スピーチ を します。
Yan-san will make a speech in Japanese tomorrow.
6A. パーティー に だれ が 来 (き) ますか。
Who are coming to the party?

6B. 小林 (こばやし) さん と 小林 (こばやし) さん の 友 (とも)だち が 来 (き)ます。 Kobayashi-san and his/her friend(s) are coming.

7A. どの 科目 (かもく) が おもしろい ですか。
Which subjects are interesting?

7B. 社会 (しゃかい) と 数学 (すうがく) が おもしろい です。
Social science and mathematics are interesting to me.

8A. どの 人 が 田中 (たなか) さん ですか。
Who is Tanaka-san?

8B. 木村 (きむら) さん の となり の 人 (ひと) です。
The person next to Kimura-san.

Grammar Discussion.
 
A. 「が」 indicates that N1 is the subject of the sentence. (Examples 1-8) B. 「が」 shows the subject of an action, existence or condition. (Examples 1-8) C. 「が」is used for expressing phenomena, incidents and conditions. (Examples 1,2,3,4,5) D. When the subject part is the information being sought, 「が」 is used for the answer. (Examples 6,7,8)

1. わたし の うち は 東京 (とうきょう) に あります。
My home is in Tokyo.
2. 桜 (さくら) の 花 (はな) は きれい です。
Cherry blossoms are beautiful.
3A. 田中 (たなか) さん は どんな 人 (ひと) ですか。
What is Tanaka-san like?

3B. きれい な 人 (ひと) です。
She is a beautiful person.

4A. 机 (つくえ) の 上 (うえ) に 辞書 (じしょ) が ありますか。
Is there a dictionary on the desk?

4B. いいえ、辞書 (じしょ) は ありません。
No. there isn't. There's no dictionary (here).

5A. この 本 (ほん) を 読 (よ) みましたか。
Have you read this book?

5B. はい、その 本 (ほん) は もう 読 (よ) みました。
Yes, I've read that book.

6A. お仕事 (おしごと) は。
What is your job?

6B. 高校 (こうこう) で 日本語 (にほんご) を 教 (おし) えています。
I'm teaching Japanese at senior high school.

7. わたし は 両親 (りょうしん) と 住 (す) んで いますが、兄 (あに) は 一人 (ひとり) で 住 (す) んで います。
　　 I live with my parents, while my brother lives by himself.
8. 犬 (いぬ) は すき ですが、猫 (ねこ) は きらい です。
I like dogs, but I don't like cats.
9. 吉田 (よしだ) さん と は テニス を しますが、田中 (たなか) さん と は しません。
I play tennis with Yoshida-san, but not with Tanaka-san.
10. 田中 (たなか) さん に は もう 手紙 (てがみ) を 書 (か) きました。
I've already written a letter to Tanaka-san.
11. 駅 (えき) から は 歩 (ある) いて 10 分 (ぷん) ぐらい です。
It takes 10 minutes on foot from the station.
12. わたし の 部屋 (へや) に は テレビ が あります。 There is a TV in my room.

Grammar Discussion.
 
A. 「は」 indicates that N1 is the topic of the sentence. (Examples 1~6, 10,11,12) B. 「は」 is used for stating N in comparison to other things. (Examples 7,8,9) C. 「は」 cannot be used with interrogatives. D. 「は」 can be used with other particles. (Examples 9,10,11,12) 　　N に／へ／で／と／から／まで→　N には／へは／では／とは／からは／までは E. 「は」is pronounced as “wa”.

Examples.
 
1. すみません が、100 円 (えん) だけ 貸 (か) してください。
Excuse me. Could you lend me just 100 yen?
2. 10 分 (ぷん) だけ 休 (やす) みましょう。
Let's have a break just for 10 minutes.
3. 林 (はやし) さん だけ 来 (き) ません でした。
Only Hayashi-san didn't come.
4. ジュース だけ 買 (か) いました。 I bought only juice.
5. 3 年生 (ねんせい) だけ が 試合 (しあい) に 出 (で) ました。
Only the third year students participated in the game.
6. ひらがな だけ を 勉強 (べんきょう) します。
We study only hiragana.
7. 辞書 (じしょ) だけ は 使 (つか) わないで ください。
Please use anything except a dictionary.

Grammar Discussion.
 
A. 「だけ」 is preceded by N indicating the object, degree, range and/or quantity, and limits and emphasizes these qualities. (Examples 1~7) B. The ending of the sentence can be both positive and negative. (Examples 3,4) C. When 「だけ」 is used with particles 「が」「を」「は」, it is followed by these particles. 「が」 and 「を」 may be omitted. (Examples 5,6,7)
